Standard bass rod development often over-emphasizes featherlight weight for marketing appeal. Advanced composite reinforcements or multi-axis overlays—staples of ultra-high-end rods—are frequently discarded in standard series because they add weight and raise production costs.

However, LEGIT DESIGN prioritizes actual on-the-water performance. A rod that is merely lightweight or sharp is incomplete. Conversely, an overly stiff, rigid blank cannot generate true lifting power. In developing the WILD SIDE series, the engineers tested every material configuration, prioritizing functional performance over manufacturing margins.

A high-performance blank must balance conflicting responsibilities: it must cast effortlessly, register high-definition sensitivity, cushion biting fish to prevent spit hooks, and deliver the necessary backbone for hooksets and landing fish. Full-Body Aramid Reinforcement

To eliminate the brittleness associated with high-modulus carbon blanks, LEGIT DESIGN wraps the entire blank (excluding solid tips) in a multi-directional sheet of para-aramid fiber.

Famous for its extreme tensile strength, impact absorption, and cut resistance, aramid fiber is relied upon in bulletproof vests, high-friction brake pads, performance tires, aerospace composites, and seismic bridge reinforcements. In the WILD SIDE series, this multi-directional aramid overlay envelopes the blank from the tip section to the butt end. This introduces incredible resistance to twisting (torsion) and crushing under load, while giving the entire rod a supple, torquey recovery power.

Rather than simply reducing guide sizes blindly across the board, the LEGIT DESIGN Original Guide Setting varies guide sizing, spacing, and placement based on the specific application of each blank.
