The tip is fitted with DAIWA's own high-modulus carbon solid, "Mega Top R." This highly sensitive carbon solid picks up signals from kawahagi accurately and transmits them clearly as tactile feedback. On top of that, the instant response unique to Mega Top R enables split-second enticements and hooksets, delivering a level of high-response, high-speed kawahagi fishing never seen before. The blank, completely redesigned from scratch for Mega Top R and clad in an unrivaled lightness, combines with Mega Top R to achieve a linear handling that puts it in a different league from conventional kawahagi rods. Another "EX" is born into DAIWA's kawahagi rod lineup.

Choosing between the "Kyokuei" and "Shunei" series
By switching between "Kyokuei," with its SMT tip, and "Shunei," with its Mega Top R tip, you can find the ideal answer for every situation.

[Kyokuei Series]
Making the most of the bite-taking performance that comes from "SMT's" suppleness, along with excellent overall sensitivity (visual + tactile), it performs in every situation thanks to its versatility — not least when fish are finicky and low on activity. Both visual and tactile sensitivity are outstanding, letting you feel bites through both eye and hand, which helps deliver a stable catch.

[Shunei Series]
An aggressive series armed with the tactile sensitivity of the high-modulus carbon solid "Mega Top R" to instantly detect a fish, plus well-paced enticement and split-second hooksets that make the most of a carbon solid's response. It concedes some versatility to the Kyokuei series, but depending on the situation — especially when fish are highly active — it can deliver explosive results.

DAIWA Technology

ESS — Expert Sense Simulation
When a rod bends, it generates energy (restoring force) that works to straighten it back the other way. This is "strain energy" — the energy stored in a deformed (strained) blank as it tries to return to its original shape — and it's an extremely important factor in determining a rod's performance. DAIWA developed its own system for analyzing and designing around this "strain energy," making it possible not only to clearly quantify where a blank excels and where it falls short, but also to reflect the angler's own sensibility in the design — bringing the rod ever closer to what anglers are actually looking for.

AGS
AGS (Air Guide System), which delivers light weight and high sensitivity, uses a carbon frame. Because carbon offers roughly three times the rigidity of titanium, it transmits even the faintest signals carried through the line directly to the blank without absorbing them, giving it high sensitivity. Carbon's light weight also helps reduce the weight of the whole rod, and lightening the tip section in particular brings an added boost in sensitivity.

Mega Top R
A high-modulus carbon solid tip that combines "Mega Top" — a carbon solid with fibers and resin evenly distributed throughout — with Toray's TORAYCA T1100G, using DAIWA's own manufacturing technology. Development was carried all the way down to the resin itself, achieving a major boost in sensitivity along with high-response handling.

X45
To prevent the twisting that occurs during casting, action, hooksets, and fights, years of research led to the conclusion that, on top of the conventional structure (0° and 90° relative to the rod tip), wrapping a "45°" bias cross — carbon fiber angled at ±45° — is the optimal way to prevent twist. By adopting X45, twist is prevented, and power, handling, and sensitivity are all dramatically improved.

Zero Seat Cavity Trigger
Zero Seat is a reel-seat design philosophy aimed at letting anglers enjoy fishing wholeheartedly, free of stress. The "Cavity (hollow) Trigger," developed based on that philosophy, aims for sensitivity through thorough weight reduction. Its outer surface, where it touches the hand, is shaped for handling, while material is hollowed out from the inside to achieve that weight reduction.

To achieve the slow, swaying enticement of SF-style fishing, the solid section of Mega Top R was extended (compared to the EX S-172). Even with Mega Top R's inherent stiffness, extending the solid section succeeded in both improving bite-taking performance and securing a wide range of enticing motion. Naturally, Mega Top R's razor-sharp tactile sensitivity remains fully intact. On top of that, the second section is given power on par with the Kyokuei Kawahagi EX SF class, achieving outstanding handling together with Mega Top R.
