Techniques such as Tai-Raba (snapper rubber jigging) in shallow water or vertical applications require a reel that combines high rigidity with a compact profile. The '26 Kohga TW 80 achieves this by leveraging the synergy between HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR and HYPER ARMED HOUSING (AL), prioritizing the core attributes of Tai-Raba fishing: smooth, consistent retrieval and structural rigidity. Additionally, the use of a small-diameter spool ensures a compact body design. It maintains a rapid drop speed even when using the lightweight jig heads typical of shallow-water or vertical fishing, while the TWS system ensures precise descent to the bottom. It also features the MagForce braking system, allowing for wide-area coverage via underhand casting—even in conditions with no tide or wind.

HYPERDRIVE DESIGN
A next-generation baitcasting reel design concept aimed at maintaining high performance over the long term and significantly elevating all fundamental performance standards. It comprises up to four key technologies: HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR for long-lasting, smooth rotation; HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT for powerful, effortless retrieval; HYPER ARMED HOUSING for a rigid, deformation-resistant structure; and HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH, an insulated mechanism that ensures reliable operation in harsh environments by preventing salt-induced seizing. The synergistic effect of these technologies ensures stable performance across a wide range of fishing conditions.

HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR
A newly designed gear system engineered for powerful, enduringly smooth rotation. By increasing the gear mesh ratio without reducing the gear tooth module (size)—a factor directly linked to durability—DAIWA has achieved a unique technology that preserves the reel's initial smoothness over the long term.

HYPER ARMED HOUSING (AL)
A housing system that firmly supports internal components with high rigidity and precision, delivering a refined, powerful retrieval feel. Metal construction is essential for the critical frame; when combined with side plates and set plates, it ensures that fundamental performance capabilities are maintained over an extended period. ※ This product features a frame and gear-side plate made of aluminum alloy, resulting in a tough and durable housing design.

HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH
A clutch system designed for exceptional reliability; it not only offers responsive performance capable of withstanding tens of thousands of engagement cycles but also rarely malfunctions, even in highly saline seawater. Thanks to a state-of-the-art insulation structure, the incidence of clutch seizure caused by dried salt deposits—a common issue in harsh saltwater environments—has been reduced by 99% compared to our previous models.

TWS (T-WING SYSTEM)
TWS significantly reduces line friction at the line guide (the point closest to the spool), where line speed is highest during the cast. By minimizing the resistance that typically hinders casting distance, this system not only achieves superior casting range and improved handling but also accelerates sink rates and reduces backlash. It unlocks new possibilities for line guide performance during both retrieval and casting.

UTD (Ultimate Tournament Drag)
DAIWA’s drag system eliminates the initial "stickiness" often felt when drag first engages, delivering a smooth, consistent feel without stuttering. It also offers powerful maximum drag performance that intensifies as the drag is tightened.

Magforce
The fixed induction rotor represents the origin of DAIWA’s proprietary non-contact electromagnetic induction braking technology. Among the non-contact electromagnetic braking systems DAIWA has developed since 1982, this features the simplest structure. It operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction: as the induction rotor spins within a magnetic field, eddy currents generate a force opposing the direction of rotation. Because the rotor is fixed, the braking force—adjusted via the dial—remains consistent and stable. This feature provides a distinct advantage on select reel models.

110mm Handle
A handle length specifically designed for shallow-water and vertical fishing techniques, such as Tai-Rubber (Inchiku/Kabura) fishing. It enables steady, constant-speed retrieval while allowing the angler to sensitively detect changes in the current.
