The six-piece design makes it compact enough for headwater fishing, but it also utilizes the tension in the ferrules to control the long leader system with ease. It's a rod that can be recommended not only to beginners but also to advanced users. Of course, it can be used even without the long leader system.

Small stream specification that can also use long leader tippets.

Many people choose dry fly fishing when they start fly fishing, but I've realized that it's often done in smaller streams than I had imagined. Personally, I would like to recommend the long tippet system using LDL15ft to such people as well, but considering the tackle balance and casting skills, it often seems too much to handle. Even fly fishers with a certain level of skill often find a system with a controllable length like LDL13ft + tippet 4–6ft more suitable than an excessively long tippet system. With this system, the tippet part can be quite long, making it perfectly possible to naturally drift a dry fly in small streams. The important thing is how well you can control the slack of the tippet and the shape of the presentation to match your ideal.

Considering small streams like mountain streams and creeks, rods longer than 8ft can be a bit cumbersome, but when we developed this model and set the rod length to 7'7", it turned out that it allows for a very agile fishing up the stream. The action is not a slow one specialized for long tippets, but a medium action not too slow, capable of handling short tippets as well. The bending curve follows the traditional NSF series, but without insisting on a fast line speed or a ship-shaped loop, it can accommodate slow loops and narrow loops, resulting in a versatile rod for stream dry fly fishing. Especially with six pieces, it has excellent portability, and it can be kept in a back pocket as a spare rod, making it ideal for fishing up the headwaters. The field tests were mainly conducted in the headwaters, but even with a shorter system of 18ft instead of the usual 21–22ft, fishing was quite comfortable.

As an aside, fishing in these headwaters reaffirmed to me the original joys of dry fly fishing. It truly adheres to the adage, 'Start stream fishing from the creeks.' While pursuing Yamame in the main stream is certainly fun, the development test of the Infante 773-6NSF made me once again enjoy the more relaxed fishing for Iwana, which doesn't require finicky fly choices." — Naoto Shibuya
