SHIMANO 18 Bantam MGL Left
Overview
After 40 years since the appearance of the historic "Bantam 100", the new Bantam has been reborn in modern times. The adoption of a core solid body with a level wind protector, side plate, and main frame molded as one unit eliminates rattling when palming. It has achieved high rigidity that sets it apart from conventional low-profile baitcasting reels. The dial case that supports the spool is forged from aluminum and exposed from the side of the body, making it compact and transmitting vibrations directly to the palm of the hand. It also contributes to high sensitivity. Shimano, a leader in metal processing technology, has used the latest technology to create the modern Bantam, revising the advantages of the highly rigid aluminum material. The inherited spirit of the engineers will take a new step in the history of baitcasting reels.
We are bringing back the passionate Bantam. This project, which began with rods and lures in 2016, has finally reached out to reels in 2018. "A highly versatile and easy-to-use tackle" "A tackle that captures the joy of bass fishing right in the middle." When we applied the Bantam product concept to a reel, the performance that emerged was a "high sense of rigidity" that far exceeded conventional standards. A strong reel that won't make a sound even in hard fishing, with a shape that fits comfortably in the hands of many people. To realize this proposition, the material that modern Bantam chose was the same "aluminum" as that famous machine.
To achieve a compact body that is easier to palm and high rigidity by reducing the number of parts, the side plate opposite the handle is also integrated. The hand comes into direct contact with the dial case, which also functions as a bearing, which also helps improve sensitivity.
We have succeeded in drilling holes on the side of the spool, which was previously considered technically difficult.
By reducing the moment of inertia of the spool, which determines the casting performance of a baitcasting reel, we have achieved a significant increase in casting distance. The Bantam MGL is equipped with a newly designed 150-size deep groove spool. The generous line capacity of 16lb-100m supports a strong fishing style.
The new SVS∞ (Infinity) is a centrifugal brake, but it has a wide range of brake adjustments that can handle almost any situation, just by adjusting the external dial.
If you leave the four brake shoes on, there is basically no need for internal adjustments. (When more precise settings are required, you can make fine adjustments with the internal brake shoes. The brake shoes are on when the product is shipped.)
The use of ultra-small precision gears has achieved an unprecedented "silky" reeling feel.
When compared to conventional gears, the vibration level is less than half (our comparison).
In addition, the increased number of interlocking teeth ensures strength that surpasses conventional gears.
The elaborate body housing and high-rigidity core solid body of the Bantam MGL bring out these features even more effectively.
