SMITH Troutin' Spin Fieldream Averlla FLA-T54ML "Still"

Overview

The Averlla, named after the word for "shrike," is a species of bird that, despite its modest and unassuming appearance, has a hunter-like side, instinctively capturing prey whether hungry or not.

Designed with the tranquility characteristic of trout rods, the Averlla is crafted to adjust to technical scenarios, offering unique features that cannot easily be substituted. It is conceived as a special rod that ventures into "unexplored territories."

Specifications List:

  • One-and-a-Half (2-Piece) Configuration: Allows for ease of transport while maintaining the integrity of a one-piece rod in terms of action and sensitivity.
  • Blanks: Made from 24t+40t carbon graphite. The main blank has an un-sanded finish for a raw, tactile feel, while the grip area features a 4-axis cross carbon finish, enhancing both aesthetics and structural integrity.
  • Guides: The top guide uses a titanium frame KGST (SiC) for enhanced durability and reduced friction, while all other guides are titanium frame SiC-S, offering superior strength and smoothness.

This combination of features makes the Averlla rod ideal for anglers seeking a distinctive tool to explore new waters and master complex fishing techniques.

The Still (Minnowing) Special is designed to cover operational areas that were difficult to replicate with traditional area rods.

From high-activity, high-tempo scenarios where quick minnow retrieval is crucial, to more precise and meticulous sight fishing requiring accurate course navigation, this rod offers significant advantages in pursuing the "sharpness" and "accuracy" needed in minnowing situations.

The foundation of this rod is based on Mr. Motoyama's supervision of the "STS-HM63SS," which has been highly regarded across various genres as a rod that "hooks by itself."

The recovery speed of this rod, from being bent during action to returning to its original position, is exceptionally fast, allowing for a swift transition to the next action.

Moreover, its short length design makes it easier to lure and keep fish close until the very end. With minimal short motion needed for effective hooking, this rod becomes even more valuable when used in conjunction with other area trout rods in your collection.

“Magic Jerk” :

The technique known as "Magic Jerk" involves casting the lure and quickly sinking it below the trout's line of sight to conceal its presence. Then, by applying line tension and controlling the posture, the lure is made to rise straight up. When the lure re-enters the fish’s field of vision, the abrupt appearance often compels the trout to strike.

In muddy ponds where sight fishing is not possible, using PE line helps explore the trout’s range and detect bites based on the movement of the line. Additionally, ester line, which is less likely to spook fish due to its good water compatibility and minimal stretch, is also effective for this type of fishing.

Blank:

The rod blank uses a combination of 24t and 40t carbon graphite. The #1 section is based on a blend of 24t/40t, while the #2 section is composed of 40t high-modulus carbon. The main blank has an un-sanded finish for a raw, tactile feel, complemented by a 4-axis cross carbon finish around the grip area for enhanced durability and aesthetics.

Grip:

The grip design places a strong emphasis on aesthetic appeal and technical functionality, featuring a natural wood reel seat at its core with strategically placed materials for optimal performance. An original three-dimensional logo plate from Smith is built into the natural wood reel seat (note that patterns may vary due to the natural wood).

Ferrule:

Utilizes a spigot ferrule to smoothly connect the bend from the belly to the butt, even within a short effective length. This is part of a one-and-a-half configuration where the joint is intentionally shifted forward to enhance the smooth transition of the rod’s action.

Guides:

The top guide is a KGST, paired with titanium frame SiC-S guides. This small-diameter setup maximizes the rod's rapid recovery from bending, ensuring a quick and direct transmission of the feel to the angler, enhancing both sensitivity and responsiveness during use.

① Two-stage winding check:

Designed to minimize play in the blank, enhancing the rod’s responsiveness and control during casting and retrieval, ensuring a more precise action and feel.

② Standard equipped hook keeper on the butt side:

Allows for easy attachment of snaps before mounting the lure and provides a convenient spot to securely hold the lure when not in use. This feature is particularly useful for anglers who need to quickly change lures or secure their setup while moving spots.

③ Hard EVA material on the end cap:

Used to prevent the rod from slipping when propped against the ground and to reduce snagging on cold-weather gear or rainwear. This material choice ensures durability and practicality, especially in diverse fishing environments or inclement weather
