Overview

Daibi Sen: A Larger Model for Reaching Unattainable Areas

The original Bibachi is a realistic bait that focused on maintaining a true-to-life size, meticulously adjusting buoyancy and weight. The "Daibi Sen," however, is designed to tackle areas that the Bibachi couldn't reach, especially in terms of casting distance.

When the spring cicadas emerge, trout begin feeding in shallow areas. The Bibachi, with its lifelike size, perfectly imitates the spring cicada, leading to immediate strikes from trout. However, there are often frustrating moments when rises are just out of the Bibachi’s reach. On the other hand, larger plugs tend to be ignored by the trout.

The goal was to increase the size just enough to avoid being detected by the trout while improving performance. The Daibi Sen is the answer to that challenge.

The Perfect Size Increase:

The spring cicada typically measures 32–37mm in length, while the Ezo spring cicada is slightly larger. The Bibachi's 38mm size was carefully matched to these dimensions. Although the Bibachi, despite its small and lightweight design, achieved impressive casting distances, its weight imposed limitations. Thus, the Daibi Sen was developed with a slight increase in size to cover the distances that were previously out of reach.

The Daibi Sen measures 43mm in length and weighs 4g. Although this isn't a significant size increase compared to the original Bibachi (38mm, 2.6g), you'll be amazed by the casting distance it achieves when you try it. The expanded range of coverage is beyond expectation. Of course, the Daibi Sen retains the cicada-like size that appears natural to the trout.

Action:

Expanding the range of coverage would be meaningless if the Daibi Sen didn’t retain the original Bibachi’s action. The Bibachi has a unique movement that can't be replicated by simply increasing the size. To ensure that the Daibi Sen performs as well as the Bibachi, the wing size and angle were repeatedly adjusted, resulting in tight, noisy action with a single-point shake, successfully replicating the Bibachi's distinctive movement. However, the appeal of the action and wave motion has been enhanced due to the size increase.

Movable Wing on the Back:

The Daibi Sen features a unique structure with wings attached to the back, pivoting from a point on the back, characteristic of the Bibachi. This design not only looks realistic but also creates a natural silhouette during pauses, appealing to the trout below the surface. Unlike the standard Bibachi, the wings of the Daibi Sen are made thinner to improve water resistance and wing action. Additionally, the connection point is reinforced with thicker resin to increase durability.

Tungsten Weight:

Despite its small size and shape that easily catches air resistance, the Daibi Sen is equipped with a tungsten weight to enhance casting distance and stabilize its flight.

Effective Usage

  • Basic Slow Retrieve: Keep the rod tip down and retrieve slowly, causing the lure to wobble and create a wake on the water surface.
  • Twitch and Pause: Add a few quick twitches followed by a pause to create popping sounds and ripples, mimicking a struggling cicada on the water.
  • Area (Managed Fishing Grounds): After casting, let the lure sit for a long time in a "leave it" method to entice bites.
  • Topwater Rule: Avoid striking too quickly; instead, set the hook after feeling tension on the rod.
  • Line Connection: The Daibi Sen does not come with a split ring on the line eye, so it is recommended to use a small snap for connection.
