Overview: In 2016, the Monster Surf 1072 Shooting Special was introduced, creating a new category in surf rods. Development began in 2010 with the goal of achieving maximum lightweight design while maintaining the power to fully cast a 45g jig. Initially intended as part of the PE series, breakthroughs in blank construction and the introduction of Torzite rings led to its release as part of the TR series.
This rod builds on the performance of the Monster Jetty MJS1002TR, extending the length by 7 inches while only adding 5g in maximum lure weight capacity (45g) and maintaining an ultra-light blank of just 168g for a 10.7ft rod. The blank construction uses 30t + 40t carbon in the tip and 30t + 40t + 46t carbon in the butt, reinforced where necessary for durability and sensitivity. The first three guides from the butt are triple-wrapped for extra strength.
Performance: The 1072 Shooting Special is designed for precise, long-distance targeting in open-ocean surf conditions. It handles all types of lures, including topwater, minnow, vibration, jig, and jig-head worm lures, allowing anglers to repeatedly strike distant pinpoints over extended sessions. The tip is responsive enough to resist current and lure resistance, while the blank provides effortless casting with controlled rebound and bend.

Spinning: ’14 Stella 4000HG + PE 1.2 + 25lb leader, ’15 Exist 3012H + PE 1.2 + 25lb leader Use friction-style knots; leader length 1–1.5m recommended. Leader knot should exit outside the top guide for optimal casting.
