Overview

Rafter, meaning 'raft', is the name of this rod born on the Kumano River, which originates from the sacred mountains of the Kii Mountain Range. The rod is named after the 'rafting' industry, a core industry of the Kumano River system with a history of over 600 years. The river's flow is thick and strong. The trout that inhabit it are robust and show powerful fights. It is possible to forcibly draw in the target accustomed to the rapid flow at times, and at other times to let it ride the flow, similar to a raft master who controls the river freely according to its flow. This model is designed with the flow in mind.
In terms of design, the blank features a vivid green reminiscent of the Kumano River, appearing depending on how light hits it. The name Rafter imagines a raft standing in the river flow, and the grip end is tightened with an aluminum plate engraved with the MANOMA logo.

Rafter 38 切口 -kirikuchi-

In headstream areas where satisfactory casting width cannot be achieved, it is difficult to entice fish with 'rolling fishing' due to the narrowness, and heavy sinking minnows quickly reach the bottom due to the shallowness. In such spots, where long distances cannot be achieved with heavy sinking minnows, using light minnows weighing 1g to 2g and enticing them in small increments is sometimes the only way to compete. Rafter38 kirikuchi excels in even further upstream points. Among the series, it has the most flexible blank, making it a headstream-specific rod that can cast light lures without stress.

Kirikuchi refers to the "Yamato Iwana", a type of char that inhabits the Kii Peninsula. Known habitats include the headwaters of the Kumano River system, which have been protected as a no-fishing zone for many years. Historical records indicate that this species used to inhabit areas beyond this no-fishing zone, and captures are still occasionally made outside of these protected areas. Older fishermen and mountain workers in Nara Prefecture, Kii Peninsula, still refer to both native and stocked iwana as 'Kirikuchi', and in folkloristics, Kirikuchi can also be taken as a dialect term for "Iwana". Rafter38 kirikuchi is named after this valuable fish.
