DAIWA Kyokuei Kawahagi EX VS
Overview
Extreme Lightness and Sensitivity — The Ultimate Versatile Model
Built around the VS (Visual Sensitive) concept, this model features a delicate and supple 0.5 mm SMT tip that delivers exceptional visual bite detection. The flexible SMT tip amplifies the subtle suction bites of kawahagi without giving them any sense of resistance, allowing the angler to maintain complete control throughout the presentation. In addition to its visual sensitivity, the SMT also provides outstanding tactile sensitivity, enabling the angler to detect signals both by sight and by feel for precise, situation-specific fishing.
Compared with previous VS-concept models, this version incorporates slightly more firmness in the mid-tip section, making millimeter-level lure movements easier to execute. The rod employs AGS with lightweight, high-rigidity, trouble-free R-type frames combined with thin, lightweight N-rings, contributing not only to weight reduction but also to increased sensitivity and sharper operability.
Supreme Lightness and Operability — The Pinnacle of the SF (Super Flex) Concept
Among the diverse Kyokuei Kawahagi series, this soft-action item has long distinguished itself as a tournament-winning rod under the SF (Super Flex) concept. The SMT tip enables both visual sensitivity and bite absorption, while also maintaining excellent tactile feedback — the essence of the SF action.
While inheriting the traditional SF concept, this model uses ultra-low-resin, high-strength SVF Nano Plus carbon in a slim yet thick-walled construction. This design preserves the supple cushioning characteristic of SF, while achieving even higher levels of operability and tactile sensitivity. Highly praised by SF-method creator Yukinori Miyazawa, this rod is regarded as his masterpiece.
Daiwa Technologies
ESS — Expert Sense Simulation

When a rod bends, it generates restorative energy that attempts to return the blank to its original shape. This “strain energy” is one of the most important factors influencing rod performance. Daiwa independently developed a system that analyzes and designs rods based on this strain energy, making it possible to clearly identify strengths and weaknesses numerically, while also incorporating the angler’s intuitive sensory requirements into the design.
AGS — Air Guide System

AGS uses carbon guide frames, which offer roughly three times the rigidity of titanium. This prevents micro-vibrations from being absorbed and transmits subtle signals directly to the blank with extreme sensitivity. The lightness of carbon further reduces total rod weight—especially at the tip—leading to even higher sensitivity.
SMT — Super Metal Top

SMT tips use a super-elastic titanium alloy exclusive to Daiwa. Thanks to the vibration-amplifying properties of metal, SMT provides sensitivity levels unattainable with carbon. The material offers high elasticity, strength, durability against impact, and a unique combination of responsiveness and suppleness, achieving both excellent tactile sensitivity and highly visible bite detection.
SVF Nano Plus

SVF is a high-density carbon material that achieves lighter weight, higher power, and slimmer blanks. By incorporating Toray’s Nanoalloy® technology using Daiwa’s proprietary methods, even greater strength and reduced weight are achieved.
X45

Through extensive research, Daiwa identified ±45° bias carbon wraps as the optimal way to prevent blank twisting, in addition to conventional 0°/90° construction. X45 dramatically improves power, operability, and sensitivity by suppressing twist during casting, action, hook-setting, and fighting.
ZERO SEAT — Cavity Trigger

The ZERO SEAT design philosophy aims to create a reel seat that feels “weightless,” removing stress and maximizing comfort. The cavity (hollow) trigger is engineered for extreme lightness to enhance sensitivity. The exterior is shaped for operability, while inner material removal reduces weight.
