The flattering process is used to increase the strength of the hook, but it is not a process that can only be done by flattering the hook in the dark. The effectiveness of the flattering process depends on the balance of the needle thickness, gape width, point and shank length, and other factors. In the case of LENTUS, the flexibility and strength are set to work best by adding a 5% deformation just below the hook point and a 15% deformation at the bend curve, where the greatest load is applied.

Unlike conventional round lines, the FLAT SHANK has a shape similar to a rectangle. The shape of the flat shank is similar to that of a square, which helps to keep the assist line in place and prevents it from shifting in unintended directions or becoming fixed.
