In 1988, Fenwick introduced the first generation Crankshaft series. At the time, it was a novel design specifically intended for crankbait and other winding lures. During an era when the strong recovery power of cutting-edge graphite and boron rods was being recognized as unsuitable for crankbaits, the first Crankshaft, a pioneer in composite structures combining glass blanks with graphite, was born. Now, we re-evaluate the essential elements needed for modern winding rods. Among the many factors to consider such as penetration, difficulty in shedding the hook, and hooking, the most critical has been identified as 'casting performance,' initiating the development. Through repeated testing, glass fiber was chosen as the optimal material to deliver lures precisely to the envisioned spot.
