DR stands for “Dual Reel” — meaning it is perfectly engineered to handle both spinning and baitcasting reels.

Recognized as a genre pioneer, VARIVAS Graphite Works has long focused on targeting large trout in main rivers and lakes, refining spinning finesse centered around the iconic Cardinal 3/4, as well as power bait finesse using classic Ambassadeur 2500C/4600C reels. Traditionally, anglers needed separate rods for spinning and bait setups. Now, both applications are completely consolidated into a single rod: the “STH.”

Built with the latest T4 hybrid fiberglass and featuring a fully integrated inner metal tip, this robust 4-piece construction offers exceptional durability. It is highly reliable as a travel rod for expeditions to Hokkaido or overseas destinations. Designed specifically for dedicated old-reel enthusiasts, even if you are limited to using only this single “STH,” its DR (Dual Reel) architecture ensures flawless compatibility with both spinning and baitcasting reels.

While compensating for the inherent power limitations of Cardinal and Ambassadeur reels, this next-generation glass rod delivers formidable strength combined with supple resilience. The STH features a completely redesigned guide system to eliminate line troubles commonly associated with old reels, while simultaneously improving casting distance and responsiveness. It also provides excellent handling with modern 2000-class spinning reels such as Stella and Exist.

The fully integrated inner metal tip, incorporating Japanese-made steel, provides the optimal solution for conquering deep ranges. It ensures solid hook penetration into the hard jaws of trophy trout. Rather than going fully triggerless, the trigger is finely diamond-cut to a minimal form and adorned with raden (mother-of-pearl) inlay, achieving supreme palming fit with high-profile round Ambassadeur reels (including Calcutta models). Transitioning back to Cardinal setups feels completely natural and seamless.

A robust, small-diameter high-foot butt guide prevents the unavoidable line troubles caused by Cardinal’s small spool design. Free yourself from the classic “Cardinal = line trouble” stress once and for all.

【② Tuned for Ambassadeur.】
The renowned short trigger is precision diamond-cut to the limit without becoming triggerless, maximizing palming comfort when using high-profile round Ambassadeur reels (including Calcutta). Casting performance and handling are dramatically enhanced for supreme comfort.

Fully blank-integrated Inner Metal Tip (Japanese steel construction) delivers outstanding improvements in castability, operability, and sensitivity. It also completely eliminates the traditional weakness of fiberglass rods — the “soft collapse” feel — ensuring firm hooksets into the hard jaws of large trout and confident landing performance.

Equipped with a Graphite Works original-design wood reel seat and screw system. The lightweight yet highly rigid camphor wood seat is repeatedly impregnated with fluororesin and meticulously polished to achieve an elegant, low-gloss finish that preserves the natural wood texture. For the STH, the seat is shaped narrower than usual to achieve an unparalleled level of ergonomic fitting.

A one-of-a-kind grip system featuring a stepped carbon mesh pipe construction. Outfitted with AAA-grade cork and a blank-through structure that allows the entire grip to flex moderately, maximizing the natural bend characteristics of fiberglass for light, crisp casting and excellent landing control.

Includes an original hard case with hand-script “GraphiteWorks” and “The One and Only” embroidered logos, along with a velour inner sleeve.
