DAIWA Gekkabijin MX 74UL-S・J
Обзор
A flower that blooms at night continues to shine brighter.
First introduced in 2005, Gekkabijin was DAIWA’s first dedicated tackle series for light-saltwater game fishing. Like the elegant flower from which it takes its name, Gekkabijin dances vividly under the moonlight, energizing the angler with each cast. Designed for familiar yet challenging targets—such as horse mackerel, which often demand extremely delicate presentations, and large, cunning rockfish hiding in crevices and kelp gaps—Gekkabijin tackle has continued to evolve. The series will keep progressing alongside anglers, delivering new levels of joy and excitement that have never been experienced before. The refined glow of Gekkabijin will continue illuminating the world of light-saltwater game.
Cutting-edge tapers and a carbon monocoque rear grip deliver class-leading sensitivity.
The Gekkabijin MX series was engineered with class-leading sensitivity and operability as its core concept.
The blanks—designed specifically for rockfish and horse mackerel game and infused with expertise from higher-end models—achieve both high sensitivity and a slim profile. They transmit subtle bottom contacts, line slack, and the faintest lure changes directly to the angler, allowing precise control and deliberate lure action.
The integrated carbon monocoque rear grip amplifies vibration transmission to the hand, enabling the angler to instantly detect bites during curve fall or steady retrieve and respond with quick hook-sets.
The reel seat adopts the Zero Seat design that can be comfortably held with a light touch (Spinning: Seamless Fit / Baitcasting: Cavity Trigger).
The lineup covers everything from jighead rigs, split shot, and Carolina rigs to various lures and conditions, providing excellent versatility.
DAIWA Technology
X45

Through long-term research, DAIWA concluded that preventing rod twist requires not only traditional 0° and 90° fiber orientation but also the addition of ±45° bias construction. X45 delivers significant improvements in power, operability, and sensitivity by preventing torsion during casting, lure action, hooking, and fighting.
MEGA TOP

Mega Top is a carbon solid tip in which fibers and resin are uniformly dispersed, allowing it to bend evenly in all directions. Strength is greatly improved over conventional carbon solids, enabling finer, slimmer, and more flexible high-taper tips. This produces outstanding tactile and visual sensitivity.
Applied to models 610L-S and 74UL-S only.
ZERO SEAT

The Zero Seat is a new reel-seat design philosophy aimed at ensuring anglers can enjoy fishing without stress and with natural comfort.
V-JOINT

Using bias-structured carbon sheets in the joint section delivers a smooth bend closely resembling that of a one-piece rod. Compared with rods without V-Joint, it greatly improves power, resilience, and recovery speed, resulting in ideal action.
HVF NANOPLUS

High-density HVF carbon reduces resin content and increases carbon fiber density, making it ideal for rods requiring strength and resilience. When combined with Toray’s Nanoalloy technology through DAIWA’s unique manufacturing process, it achieves even higher strength and lighter weight.

Class-leading blank performance

Based on staple Gekkabijin model numbers, the blanks were refined with feedback from testers and DAIWA technologies. HVF Nanoplus material is reinforced with V-Joint construction and X45. The result is a blank with exceptional sensitivity, operability, hook-setting fun, and bending enjoyment.
Carbon monocoque rear grip

The Gekkabijin series adopts the carbon monocoque rear grip for the first time. Fully carbon construction enhances appearance, overall balance, and delivers a sharp casting feel.
Lightweight, high-sensitivity reel seat

Equipped with the same Zero Seat used in flagship models (Spinning: Seamless Fit / Baitcasting: Cavity Trigger). Selected for its ability to transmit blank vibrations with high sensitivity—essential for light-game fishing.
Highly luminous design with outstanding visibility at the fishing grounds

Two-piece joint for crisp, decisive hook-sets

High-elasticity Mega Top improves sensitivity and hook-setting performance

Real woven carbon used for the grip end, producing a distinctive finish that subtly shows through under sunlight

Item Descriptions
68L-T
A short model that pairs a highly responsive tubular tip with an easy-to-maneuver length. Ideal for finesse jighead rigs, allowing lures to drift naturally and trigger bites from rockfish. Excellent for fast-paced shoreline run-and-gun fishing on low piers or rocky terrain and for quickly assessing conditions.
610L-S
A short model featuring a delicate solid tip with excellent bite absorption. Its maneuverability shines on low piers and small rocky zones, while the flexible, highly ingestible tip prevents missed bites. Perfect for jighead rigs and small plugs during night fishing and equally effective for precise rod-driven lure action in daytime.
72L-T
A light-standard model that leverages the operability and sharp feedback of a tubular tip. Designed for long-distance casting of lightweight jighead rigs or plugs, and for high-rod-angle retrieves. Its length helps avoid structure at your feet and excels in situations requiring distance while maintaining a steady finesse presentation.
74UL-S
An all-round solid-tip model that automatically hooks rockfish with light, crisp bites. Handles essential rockfish operations such as long-casting small jighead rigs around 1 g and small plugs around 3 g, drifting them naturally for strikes.
710ML-T
A power model designed for targeting offshore rockfish on drop-offs or bottom contours using jigheads, plugs, and float rigs. With extra blank backbone and tip balance tailored for distance, it conquers large, open areas such as small reefs, surf zones, and boulder fields where short rods cannot reach.
83M-T
A high-power model built for hunting large rockfish holding on deep bottoms. Excels in big water such as reefs, surf, and boulder fields, handling heavy jigheads, larger plugs, and float rigs in distant or fast-current environments. Also effective in mixed-species fields shared with seabass and black sea bream.
73ULB-T (Baitcasting)
A bait finesse model designed for accurate casting of lightweight plugs and jighead rigs with exceptional tactile sensitivity through palming. The blank, set between regular and fast taper, produces a smooth bend that is easy to cast and manage. Combined with the carbon monocoque rear grip, it delivers outstanding feedback for bottom contact and instant bites.
76LB-T (Baitcasting)
An all-round bait model suited for long-distance float rigs, Carolina rigs, plugs, and metal jigs. The blank casts like a regular taper yet delivers the control of a fast taper, producing sharp lure action with a powerful butt section capable of pulling large rockfish away from structure. The carbon monocoque grip enhances full-hand sensitivity, transmitting bottom contact and quick bites with precision.
