Development Story

Surf fishing has grown enormously popular in recent years, but available prime spots are often limited. Increased fishing pressure means that flatfish are becoming more reluctant to bite using traditional techniques.

To overcome this, the “surf finesse” method was developed—a more delicate and precise approach compared to conventional surf fishing. By using subtle, skillful lure manipulations, anglers can trigger bites even in areas where fish were previously thought absent.

The Deto90Finesse was created to fully support this finesse method, providing anglers the tools to consistently catch fish with precision.

Design Goals

While “finesse” often implies light rigs, Ricordo defines finesse as “delicate, skillful technique”—subtle lure manipulations and precise angling, not just lightweight lures.

Need for Versatility

Surf fishing conditions vary: sometimes a minnow works best, other times a heavy sinking pencil lure is needed for distance.

The Deto90Finesse accommodates this with a maximum lure weight of 40 g, capable of casting even long, heavy sinking pencils with ease. It handles everything from ultra-light rigs to heavier lures, making it highly versatile.

Smooth Bend Curve

The Deto series’ hallmark smooth bend curve is retained in the Finesse model. As load increases, the bending apex moves gradually from the tip toward the rod’s midsection, allowing the rod to absorb stress evenly.

The rod uses four types of carbon prepreg: 24t, 30t, Toray T1100G, and M40X.

Guide Setup

The rod uses Fuji Titanium SIC-S guides for optimal balance, sensitivity, and casting distance.

• Micro-guide setup inherited from the Deto series.
• The butt guide is one size larger than the Deto90, bringing it closer to the reel for enhanced leverage and control during casts and fights.

Grip & Reel Seat

• Reel seat: IPS16, lightweight and ergonomic.
• Carbon nut section is slightly extended to minimize exposed threads when attaching the reel, improving comfort and preventing hand fatigue.
