Truly “AIR” — Lightness on an Otherworldly Level
EMERALDAS AIR IL is built with an uncompromising focus on lightness and trouble-free performance, achieved through DAIWA’s proprietary interline structure.
Its stress-free, intuitive control delivers pure comfort, while its exceptional lightness dramatically enhances sensitivity and fatigue-free handling. Every action—casting, jerking, manipulating the egi—becomes a pleasure.
Pursuing an entirely new, never-before-experienced feel unique to interline rods, this next-generation rod has been realized.
The slim yet powerful blank is constructed with SVF NANOPLUS, and the lineup consists of signature models supervised by field testers Takayuki Oka, Naoki Kimori, and Yoshihiro Fukushima.
The entrance guide features AGS, delivering outstanding swing-through performance. Combined with ultra water-repellent DRY processing, it maintains excellent line release over long-term use, allowing anglers to fish without concern for line trouble.
A lightweight, highly grippable Air Sensor Seat (Air Sensor Slim) is adopted in a down-lock configuration, enabling direct blank touch with the index finger.
With V-JOINT α, the rod achieves a jerking feel close to that of a one-piece blank.
DAIWA Technologies
SVF NANOPLUS

Ultra-high-density SVF carbon achieves exceptional lightness, power, and slimness. By combining Toray Nanoalloy technology with DAIWA’s proprietary manufacturing process, further improvements in strength and weight reduction are realized.
AGS (Air Guide System)

AGS uses carbon frames to achieve extreme lightness and sensitivity. With approximately three times the rigidity of titanium, carbon frames transmit even the faintest signals from the line directly to the blank without loss. Reduced weight improves swing speed and accelerates tip recovery, greatly enhancing casting distance and control.
V-JOINT α

High-strength Nanoalloy material is used in the joint section, combined with DAIWA’s precision processing technology. This evolution of V-JOINT is stronger, lighter, and produces a smoother bend. By thinning the joint, the entire blank becomes slimmer, improving swing-through feel and operability during repeated casting.
X45

Rod twist generated during casting, action, hooking, and fighting is suppressed by incorporating ±45° bias carbon layers in addition to conventional 0° and 90° structures. X45 dramatically improves power, control, and sensitivity.
AIR SENSOR SEAT

A carbon-fiber–reinforced Air Sensor reel seat delivers lightness, strength, and high sensitivity. Each seat is specifically designed for its rod’s purpose, offering a level of control unattainable with generic reel seats.
Ultra Water-Repellent DRY Processing

Combined with the linear interline structure, this processing achieves a contact angle of 165°, preventing water droplets from adhering to the blank interior. Water is expelled instantly along with the line, enabling smooth long-distance casting.
| Model | Description |
|---|
| 710L | Supervised by Takayuki Oka – Semi-short finesse model. Designed to control line slack with a whip-like bending blank, delivering sharp and crisp egi action. Despite being L-class, it offers impressive rebound power, enabling smooth casting and jerking without tip wobble—unique to the AIR series. Optimized for autumn’s core 2.5-size egi, while also handling ultra-finesse 1.8-size egi with controlled movement. The delicate tip captures even subtle currents and reliably transmits bites to the hand. Recommended for anglers seeking sharp performance within a soft finesse feel. |
| 73M | Supervised by Yoshihiro Fukushima – Active all-round short model. Focused on achieving both adaptability and aggressive initial response through blank power and lightness. The early-7ft length provides outstanding mobility, ideal for run-and-gun fishing in areas with scattered points such as the Sea of Japan. Combines the direct feel of a short rod with M-class power, covering egi sizes from 2.5 to 4.0. Handles everything from autumn juveniles to spring monster squid with a single rod. Ideal for anglers who prefer fast, aggressive action. |
| 77MLM | Supervised by Naoki Kimori – Run-and-gun semi-short model. Developed to amplify a supple ML-class tip with M-class butt power, allowing precise yet powerful egi action. Supports short-pitch jerks with minimal rod movement, as well as stronger actions generated by butt power. Excels with 2.5–3.5-size egi for aggressive fishing and performs reliably in deep areas requiring slow, controlled tracing. Maintains tempo without compromising run-and-gun efficiency. |
| 83ML | Standard autumn run-and-gun model. Thoroughly refined for ease of casting and control. The interline structure reduces air resistance, significantly increasing swing speed. Set at 8.3 ft for an optimal balance of operability and casting distance—ideal for anglers who find standard 8.6 ft rods slightly long. Best suited for 2.5–3.0-size egi in autumn, while the ML action also adapts well to spring conditions. |
| 85MLM | Supervised by Takayuki Oka – Technical jerk & all-season model. Designed to maximize tip and butt rebound using the low air resistance of the interline structure. The ML-class tip initiates flex even under light load, while the M-class butt converts that bend into precise egi action. High response unique to the AIR series enables technical jerks and a wide range of action control—similar to a variable suspension system. Covers a broad range of egi sizes and supports strategic, all-season fishing. |
| 86M | Core all-season model of the series. The flagship standard model. Reduced air resistance dramatically increases swing speed, while its well-balanced length delivers excellent castability and control. Optimized around the widely used 3.5-size egi, yet capable of handling sizes from 2.5 to 4.0. Suitable for all seasons and squid sizes, making it the ultimate all-rounder when unsure which rod to choose. |
